Getting to Know You
Mission 0 - Leaving the Blue Marble
Timeline: Day -2 [Before "No Win Scenario"]
Jackson Lewis arrived in Sickbay for his scheduled physical. Looking around he noted that it was not exactly a finished product but it had a lot of potential. "Excuse me," he asked a nurse who passed by, "I'm here to see the Doctor?" She nodded but didn't stop walking. "She'll be with you shortly."
From in her office, Varina heard the short exchange and stood to see who it was. She walked into the main Sickbay. "Hello, do you have an appointment?"
He turned to the voice, applying his trademark smile as he held up his PADD. "According to this I do. I guess I won't be approved for duty until I get it done."
The doctor checked her PADD, unaffected by his grin. "Ahh, Lt. Lewis?"
"Please, Jackson." The smile didn't fade as he scoped her out subtly.
She gestured to a nearby biobed. "Please, have a seat, Lieutenant." She sighed inwardly. Why did these types always think they were the first to try this. When he'd done as requested, she picked up a tricorder. "How are you feeling today?" She placed a mental bet on the nature of his answer.
"Never been better, especially with this scenery."
It took everything she had not to roll her eyes as she pulled the probe out of the tricorder to wave it over him slowly. "Well, I'm glad the infirmary's decor is pleasing." She watched the readouts she got.
"I didn't catch your name." He glanced her way.
"Doctor Hightower," she said firmly. "Do you have any past injuries or current conditions I should know about?"
"The important ones are noted in my service record, most of them being emergency landings." He considered. "I got a few scratches the other night but it goes with the territory."
She nodded as he answered, checking his records, but she looked at him through a raised eyebrow when he finished. "You mean the territory of being a pilot?"
"No, a cute Andorian chick in engineering."
She gave him a pointed look. "If you expect me to be impressed by that, Mr. Lewis, you'll find I set my bar much higher than I'm sure you're used to. She looked at her tricorder, "I suppose the minor surface abrasions I'm picking up, and that bruise under your ear are from said...Andorian?"
This one was a tough nut to crack. "No, that was from the Risian." He glanced around, thinking of his next volley. "You're probably right about the whole high bar thing. I've never had much luck with the long term deal, you know what I mean?"
"Mm hmm..." was the only indication of assent that she gave. "Well, it looks like you're up-to-date on your contraception injection," since he obviously needed it. "The only thing left is for me to get a blood sample." She picked up a hypo that was already loaded with an empty vial. "Your arm, please."
He held out his arm to her. "Be gentle."
In her mind, she laughed, tempted to jam the hypo into his arm. But she refrained, drawing the blood as she did for the other crew members. "Alright, Lieutenant. You are good to go."
He stood. "Thanks Doc." He regained his grin. "Speaking of going, you wouldn't be interested in grabbing a drink sometime, would you?"
Her first instinct was to toss him out, but he'd actually asked nicely, so she responded in kind. "Thank you, Lieutenant, but I'm going to be busy in Sickbay for a while."
"Maybe next time then." He subtly checked her over one last time before making his way out of Sickbay. Perhaps there was hope yet...
