Nokomis had been distracted lately, there was no doubt about that. But she hadn't expected herself to become so distracted that she injured herself by walking into a door frame while daydreaming. Unfortunately this had been in the early hours of the morning when she couldn't sleep and so she'd been walking barefoot around the corridors as was her custom. This meant that not only had she smashed her nose into the frame she'd also stubbed, and she believed, broken her toe.
Limping to sickbay she poked her head in, her hand over her bleeding nose to see if anyone was around who knew what they were doing when it came to healing bones.
"My dear Commander Diza, what have you done to yourself?" Doctor Haas said with concern in his voice as he moved across Sickbay to meet her.
"Why does everyone assume I've done this to myself?" Mis asked, her voice sounded as if she had a bad head cold. "I mean I did, but it's damn annoying that everyone thinks I'm so clumsy." She sat down on a biobed and waited for him to do his magic.
"Firstly, it's a figure of speech." Steffen replied with a reassuring smile. "Secondly, I'm pretty sure no one thinks of you as clumsy. Now, what happened?" The Doctor asked as he pulled out his tricorder from his pocket and began giving the Commander the once over.
Nokomis couldn't help but laugh. "I ran into a door frame. There's no good excuse for it either. I was just distracted and didn't look where I was going. Not a mistake I'm likely to make again soon. It's far too embarrassing to have to come visit sickbay for that reason."
"There's nothing to be embarrassed about, every time I sit down or get up from my desk in my office I bang my knee, I've had a bruise there for about 3 weeks and do it several times a day." Steffan said with a smile. 'Hmmm, looks like you've caught your head, shoulder and knee."
"Raise your desk," Nokomis suggested, "or move it farther forward so you can scoot back and then stand up. Yes, that sounds about the extent of my pain at the moment. You're here rather late. Burning the midnight oil?"
"You know what? I hadn't even considered these options, I may look into it." Steffan replied with a smile. "I seem to spend my time here doing paperwork and trying to catch up. God knows what it'll be like when we actually leave Spacedock. I think I may have to speak to that lovely engineer about getting a decent bed in my quarters...or even maybe a hammock." He said as he continued to run his tricorder over the first officer. "Well, you've done a goodun, you've also got a mild concussion. What were you doing?"
"Just thinking and walking." She gave a small shrug. "Apparently so engrossed in what I was thinking about that my eyes weren't working to see what was in front of me. Don't daydream and walk, very dangerous." Mis responded suddenly feeling a bit uneasy for some reason.
"Sound advice, perhaps you should take it." Steffan replied with a playful smile. He the moved across Sickbay and loaded a hypospray with the medication needed and returned to Diza's side. "This will help alleviate any problems with the concussion." He said as he injected her neck. He then had a quick rummage through his pockets and pulled out a small medical tool. He activated it and began moving it over the the affected areas. "This will help reduce swelling and bruising." He stated. "So, what's on your mind? Must be something substantial if it causes this much damage?"
"Oh I don't think that needs to become common knowledge. Do you share your daydreams with others Doctor?" Mis asked. As to what she'd been thinking about, it wasn't that cheerful, the exact opposite in fact.
The Doctor smiled, "Not generally, but when they cause a fair amount of damage they must be pretty deep. That being said, I understand if you don't want to share. My door is open if you need to talk though." He added as he continued to heal the Commander's injuries.
Mis resisted the urge to roll her eyes. "I had an intimate encounter with someone and I foolishly thought that it was the beginning of . . . . something. But apparently I was only daydreaming there too."
"Ah." The Doctor replied as he finished tending to the Commander's injuries. "Personal relationships are difficult to navigate. I've struggled in the past as well. I'm not expert but can offer an ear if you want to vent at any time, or maybe speak to the ships counselor. Which ever suits you." He said, his tone reassuring. "I'd rather you talk about it than keep injuring yourself." He added with a small chuckle.
"Yes they are and I am the worst at figuring them out." Mis almost pouted. "I think maybe i'll take up fencing on the holodeck. Stabbing something seems so much more fun than talking about it. But you can join me there if you like." She used to like dancing but had not done that since Tiber had left. So another outlet seemed like a good idea.
"Fencing? I dabbled in that when I was at medical school. I can honestly say I was useless at it but I'd happily give it another go some time." Haas replied with a smile. "As long as you promise not to make me a patient in my own Sickbay." He added with a chuckle.
"You're not the one I want to stab so it's your lucky day. " Mis said sarcastically. Suddenly she was feeling tired as the embarrassment was wearing off.
"I'll take that as a compliment then." The Doctor said playfully. "You're all done here. You might be a little stiff in the morning but it should pass once you get yourself moving. Any lasting headaches then please come back and see me."
Mis nodded, "Thank you doctor. I'll meet you on holodeck two, tomorrow, 2000 Hours?"
"Sounds good. I'm looking forward to it." Steffan replied with a smile.
