"Trust me, you can do this"
Mission 1: Unscheduled Madness
Location: Deck 8
Timeline: Day 9 - 2000 Hours
Eli exited her quarters almost surprised that no one had stopped her. Heading down the corridor she turned a corner and Damian stood with his back against a wall, picking at his nails as if he were disinterested in this whole situation. Coming to a stop she looked at the other corridors she could choose but closed her eyes. "It isn't real" she whispered to herself before taking a deep breath and sprinting down the hallway. She didn't stop until she was standing outside Logan's quarters.
At this point she didn't care who saw or what they thought; she was going to trust someone. Tapping the chime she felt a panic well up in her as Jason and Ken materialized in the corridor. Frantically she began tapping the chime, willing the man in side to move faster.
Suddenly, Logan grabbed her by the hand.
He had been returning to his quarters from the ready room and saw Eli just standing there in a panic as she kept hitting the door chime. A very concerned look caused him to frown as he pulled her to face him. "Eli, what's wrong?"
Oh no... Eli hung her head in defeat. He wasn't real either. She looked up at him. "You don't know? But you just told me to come here and now he isn't here and I can't..." She put her hands over her face as she leaned forward resting her head against his chest.
He slowly raised her chin with his fingers so that they locked eyes. "Eli... I'm real. Whatever you see isn't real. I am." He squeezed her hand to reaffirm that he was in fact a real person. "You can't let them get to you."
Eli looked at Logan. She was confused but for whatever reason she believed him. Just like she had in her quarters. "What is going on Logan?" She said her voice letting on the fear she felt.
He gently opened his quarters and guided her inside as he held her, rubbing her back softly. "It's this region of space. It's... making things appear that aren't really there. We have to fight it with everything we have, Eli."
"I know it wasn't real," she admitted. "There is no way Jason could be here..." She shook her head. "I mean, none of them could be but they were and it felt real and..." She turned resting her face against his chest. She was so confused.
Once they were inside his quarters and the doors hissed shut, he rested his cheek against her head and simply held her. "It's this place. Somehow, it's making us just... lose it. It will be okay. As soon as we get warp power back, we can jump out of here. We just have to hold on a little longer."
Eli looked up at him. "You saved me." She replied as she took a small step back. "Why would you do that?" She was so confused. If this area of space was messing with her brain did that mean she thought of Logan as her hero? The thought terrified her and she was sure he could see it on her face.
"Why wouldn't I do that?" The reply was almost instantaneous and not surprising to anyone that knew him well. When he believed in something, it was just black and white. "I mean... you're worth it. Anything else is silly." He tried to find the doubt in her eyes and wash it over with confidence.
"You're dumb." She scoffed as she pushed him away slightly. "Or you have lost your mind... which is more than likely." She shook her head as she pushed her shoulders back slightly. She tried to show more confidence than she was feeling. "Thank you just the same."
He gave her a smirk at her playfulness. "I can assure you that I'm quite sane, thank you." He pushed her faintly in return, adding, "I can guarantee that Doctor Hightower would find me to be of sound mind."
"Did you not hear the thank you?" Eli said with a shift in her demeanor slightly. She looked him over slightly before she moved to him and wrapped her arms around his neck. She wanted be with him and for once, in this moment, she decided she didn't have to play coy and distant. "Why was it you?" She asked softly hoping he might have an answer.
His voice lowered as he held her tighter in his arms, content in this very moment. "It might sound cliche but... we were in the right place at the right time. We just had to wait for that moment."
Eli looked up at Logan. She watched his face for a moment before she pulled him to her for a kiss. The simple, but emotional kiss was more than she wanted to show him in that moment but she couldn't hold it back. Resting her forehead against his she whispered her next request. "Can I stay here tonight?"
"You can stay as long as you want." He closed his eyes and held her tighter in his arms, letting out a long sigh.
Eli just stood there savoring him. She suppressed the nervous shiver that threatened to run though her. Every instinct told her to run, but she had listened to her for her whole life and what had that gotten her?
Logan's heart was already racing in his chest when he chose to pull her closer and kiss her lips. He let out a sigh as they held each other close in the darkness, the only light shining from the points of light many light years away.
