Mission: Mission 1: Unscheduled Madness
Location: Deck 1 - Observation Lounge
Timeline: Day 6 - 0800 Hours

Nokomis entered the room first. She made sure every chair was pushed up against the table, not that it really mattered as the chairs would be full soon. She sat in the same spot she usually did, Logan's right side. At least if she were close to him she wouln't have to look at him much and thankfully Tiber was not going to be at this meeting because he wasn't a department head. At least, she didn't think he would be here. Her level of anxiety went way up at the thought. Not because she wouldn't be happy to see him again, but they wouldn't be alone. What would she do if someone found out about their embrace in the holodeck?

Jackson entered and took a seat as far from the door as he could. Physically his appearance was normal with the dark circles a thing of the past. Thankfully he'd watched his mother cover black eyes enough to know his way around a makeup kit. He hoped there would be some good news out of this meeting and they'd be taking off again.

The next to make their way into the meeting was T'Sai. Due to the nature of Vulcan anatomy, she looked as though she were holding up rather normally compared to some of the others. Without verbally acknowledging those in attendance, she took her customary seat that gave her a good view of the stars and the door. Her PADD was placed in front of her at the ready.

Tiber followed his department head into the briefing room, passing her a PADD containing the results of the latest astrometric scans he and his team had taken in the preceding hours. He knew what to expect in this scenario and was far more at home in a formal environment. After exchanging a few words with his superior officer in hushed tones, he turned to take a seat to the rear of T'sai. Deliberately giving nothing but a short nod in the direction of everyone else present, especially Commander Diza, as he went.

Nokomis inwardly sighed. What had she expected? A smile? Her insides were doing a ritual dance again. She went around the room, placing PADDs in front of everyone.

Varina walked through the doors and toward a seat on the far side of the table, taking a PADD from the XO with a nod. Once she was seated, she looked up from the briefing notes and realized she was sitting next to Mr. Lewis. "Hello, Lieutenant," she said quietly with a sideways glance.

It took him a moment to react, but Jackson looked to the doctor and nodded. "Morning."

The next silent entrants to the meeting also included an unexpected “plus one”: Given the situation as concerned whomever had infiltrated their quarters and had yet to be countered as a threat, Eilaea felt the disregard for rank and protocol in bringing another of her own kind to the meeting—which otherwise would have been anathema to her, especially considering her own invitation to such was undoubtedly only due to matters of diplomatic consideration—was outweighed by the strength in numbers in avoiding being alone in a room where any of the others—or even several—could be the one stalking them. Eilaea eyes the chairs, finally selecting a pair with a good view of the room as a whole who’s backs didn’t face the door.

Vriha followed Eilaea quietly, doing her best to be all but invisible. If Eilaea was at all uncomfortable about the breach in protocol in bringing her, Vriha was infinitely moreso. Nevertheless, her duty to support her fellow Romulan and protect a senior officer outweighed any apprehension she might feel at being out of place.

Ozzie came in and took up the first open seat she came to, nodding to the people she was getting to know. Her insides were a bit knotted with the information they'd been gathering and purposed to share, and how it had, embarrassingly, affected even herself. She briefly wondered if anyone in the room had experienced something similar, and turned her attention closer on their faces. Was the Helmsman wearing cover up? She might have scrutinized him over-long after settling in.

Delothian had managed to clean himself up, back in uniform and PADDs in hand with information on the ships diagnostics. He could find nothing wrong with the ship itself and being an engineer he found that very frustrating. He sat down in the nearest available seat and lifted his eye patch up to scratch his 'eye'. In his ears the faintest whispers could be heard.

Commander Barrett entered the observation room and headed straight for the empty chair at the end of the table, taking the seat softly as he exhaled through his nose as a way of sighing without the overt appearance of such. As he looked around the room he could see that each officer was dealing with the situation in their own way. He tugged at his uniform front before saying, "Thank you all for being able to take time out of your schedules to convene. I thought it might be prudent to know where we all stand in regards to getting the hell out of this delightful region of space."

Logan looked at Lt. Miazami with a nod as he figured that engineering would be the best place to start off. "Del, how are things looking down in engineering?"

Scratching his beard he replied to his commander. "All very frustrated sir. Ship's systems are working perfectly, hardware and software. We are just unable to generate a warp field in order for us to get underway. My theory is this part of space is hindering us somehow but as of yet I'm unable to find out how." For a moment he paused and looked at the XO, unsure if she had relayed her lapse in reality if he could call it that.

Daynah had been spending days in the Science Labs. It seemed since her assignment to the Orion there had not been much for her, or that she was not particularly needed. She was content to persue her experiments and let the Romulan scientist run the day to day of the department. However, when the Captain summons the senior staff for a briefing you go regardless of what you are doing.

She placed her experiments in a stand by mode and made her way to the Observation Lounge. When the turbolift doors opened. Daynah Ral was amazed at what she saw, she realized that she had not even been on the bridge before. She smiled to the crew present and entered the Lounge. Crap, she was late the entire staff was assembled and the briefing begun. Deep within Daynah the voice of Alaryc Ral came to her mind, he chastised her for her nonchalance. "Sir my apologies for my lateness, I had to settle some crucial experiments in the labs." She fumbled nervously in the pockets of her lab coat as she made her way to the empty chair next to the Romulan scientist.

Vriha nodded fractionally to the SCO as she took the seat, suppressing an urge to look more closely in case she was again seeing something not really there.

Logan nodded at the science officer and then looked between her, the good doctor and Lt. Kelly. "That's quite alright. Have you been able to ascertain any particulars about this region of space or why it's affecting us in such a dramatic way? What do the sensors reveal?"

"That is just it sir the sensors are not revealing much. It seems that the engine trouble is initially caused a phenomena similar to that which was encountered in the Hekaras Corridor. This seems to be an area of space susceptible to warp fields. That is the easy part, as to the crew and why it is effecting them I can't say. Xenobiology tells us that if it were just one species or one group being effected then we could ascertain a cause. However, since this is stretched across multiple species, and multiple groups it is simply going to take time." Daynah spoke as she sat down, then as an after thought she added. "It would help immensely if someone who was being effected would submit to some tests that myself and Dr Hightower could perform."

Not likely, Vriha thought, suppressing a grimace at the thought of allowing - let alone volunteering! - to let anyone potentially aligned with whomever had orchestrated these circumstances use her a test subject.

The doctor nodded. "I'll be glad to help however I can."

Ozzie raised her hand. "I'll be your first volunteer."

Eilaea considered that perhaps given the theoretical differences in Betazoid brain structure and otherwise, as powerful telepaths, it was likely that whatever results garnered from such an examination might not necessarily apply to many of the rest of the officers and crew. She did not, however, say so; doing so would only serve to draw attention to herself at a time when she wished to avoid it.

"Second," called Tiber out, also volunteering to assist.

Ozzie regarded Tiber for a moment. He hadn't mentioned having any hallucinations, even after Ozzie's own admission when he'd come on the scene shortly after her own episode of over active imagination.

Daynah smiled warmly "Excellent, I was hoping it would be you. Doctor Hightower what time would work for you? I can bring the proper equipment to sickbay..." Daynah's voice trailed off as Alaryc spoke to her Young one do not proceed without the Captain. "...That is with the captain's permission of course."

Barrett nodded as he thought through the course of action briefly. "Very well, lieutenant. Hopefully that opens up some information as to how we are being affected."

With Captain giving permission, the doctor turned back to Daynah. "I could be ready to start following this meeting."

Barrett turned to the Romulan operations officer sitting quietly to herself as it appeared that she was in deep thought. "Lieutenant t'Keirianh, since Lieutenant Kelly is going to assist in the testing, could you go down to main engineering and assist Mister Miazami with any efforts to restore warp power?"

"Yes sir." The crisp response gave away nothing of the concern that rose in her mind that she might well prove reasonably useless if the Chief Engineer was expecting an able hand: A Federation starship's warp core and matter/antimatter reactor were wildly different than the artificial singularities which powered a warbird.

The captain leaned forward and folded his hands on the tabletop. "If anything, it will give you an opportunity to learn about how our basic systems operate. And a fresh set of eyes can always be useful."

"Yes, Commander." Eilaea replied, somewhat relieved he anticipated her lack of skill with the equipment, yet disconcerted he had somehow discerned the issue, ruthlessly inventorying her reactions, tone, posture and wording of her earlier answer in her mind and yet still finding no obvious tell or mistake she had made that should have allowed him to make sure an accurate inference. Perhaps it was nothing more than an educated guess...

Eli's mind was else where. It took her a moment to realize that she had been mentioned and what was going on. She looked up at Logan. She was a bit shocked the be assigned to being scanned but anything that could help get them out of here. There wasn't really anything for her to responded too so she nodded before turning her attention back to the information presented in front of her.

"Sir, I have to advise something," Ozzie began as the captain finished addressing the engineering issue. "With the rise in the incidence reports, I believe a Security Alert may be in order. We need to limit only essential crew on duty rotations to move about the ship during shift or special assignments, and otherwise restrict everyone to quarters until we know more."

Barrett listened to his chief of security and nodded in agreement. "That's a good precaution, lieutenant. Let's go to general quarters. All non-essential personnel should be restricted to their quarters. Any medical issues can be addressed by sickbay personnel."

"I'll brief security and set the alert directly following this meeting," Ozzie acknowledged.

The captain looked around the table at the assembled officers and nodded. "Excellent. Dismissed." He sat there as they filtered out of the room before turning his chair to look out the window, engrossed in his own thoughts.
