New Ship, New Attitude

Mission: Mission 0 - Leaving the Blue Marble
Location: Deck 1 - Ready Room
Timeline: Day 7 - 1400 Hours

She stepped off the transporter pad. She looked around and nodded to the transporter tech. She had her transfer orders in hand. The padd had all of her faults and short comings and well as her accomplishments. The long walk to the Commander's ready room felt like the scene from an old Earth movie, "Dead Man Walking" in this case it was dead woman walking.

She arrived at the ready room, before stepping up to the door she adjusted her top and her collar. Stepping up to the door that familiar chime sounded.

Commander Barrett took a sip of his hazelnut coffee. He typically didn't drink coffee in the afternoon but on occasion it was a good boost to get through the end of the day. Hearing the chime, he looked up and said, "Come."

She stepped into his office. She was confident, but a bit nervous just the same. She took three strides into the office. Noting that the Commander was handsome to say the least, clean shaven, dark hair, human. The aroma of hazelnut was in the air, it made her breath deeply taking in the luscious smell. "Lt. JG Bethany O'Malley reporting for duty, sir." She stood straight and proud and handed the PADD forward for his review.

Logan took the PADD and gestured for her to have a seat. "Hello, lieutenant. Please have a seat." He shifted his eyes to the transfer orders, skimming over them briefly before setting the PADD down on his desk before looking her over. She was gorgeous, though that would stand to reason given her Starfleet record. "First, let me say that it's good to have another experienced engineer aboard. I know Chief Miazami will be glad to have you on his team." He took a leisurely sip of his coffee before continuing. "However, it would seem that you have a few incidents with superior officers over the years." He tugged on his uniform as he glanced at her personnel record on his computer screen.

She took a seat as he motioned for her too. She sat on the edge of the seat, she knew what was coming. She listened attentively, pausing before she responded. "First thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve on the Orion. Second, I have had my issues. I won't apologize for them. I am sure that you knew of them before I came. I am here to be the best engineer and officer I can be. All I ask if for the chance to prove myself." Taking a deep breath at that point. Hoping she did not come off as being weak, or too overbearing. It was genuine and from her heart. Pushing the loose blonde tendril that came loose behind her ear, looking him straight in the eye. Relaxing a bit.

Logan nodded faintly. He appreciated that she faced her shortcomings head on. It was the mark of a good officer, if only her attitude could be tempered over time. "Another officer that recently came aboard told me the same thing. I'll tell you what I told that officer: We wouldn't be having this conversation if I thought you couldn't do your job well. And I seem to be collecting misfits looking for redemption. I give all officers a chance to prove themselves. You have a blank slate moving forward. How you use that is up to you, lieutenant." He sipped his coffee silently as he hid the faintest of smiles.

"Thank you Commander, I appreciate the vote of confidence and the opportunity" She sat for a minute. Soaking it in for a second. The smell of the coffee, the vote of confidence she was taken aback a bit. She rose from the chair and was dismissed.

She stepped outside the ready room. Took a deep breath. "New Ship, New Attitude!"
