Mission 3: Old Enemies Never Die
Location: Deck 1 - Main Bridge
Timeline: MD 01 - 0900 Hours
Captain Barrett replicated a new cup of coffee and headed out of the ready room and onto the bridge. He sat down and took a long sip before placing the mug on the small table next to his chair. "Estimated time of arrival at the rendezvous, Lieutenant Shannon?" So far things seemed to be running smoothly to schedule and he wanted to keep it that way.
Nokomis had been about to drift off to sleep when Logan came onto the bridge. She blinked a few times and scrambled out of Logan's way, sitting down in her own chair. "Keeping it warm for you," she mumbled quietly so no one else could hear. At least she hadn't completely dozed off and drooled on anything.
"One hour, twenty-three minutes at current speed, captain," Neteri said turning in her seat smiling.
Vriha sat at the science station. Since the scanning data coming in at warp was limited, she was reviewing the data gathered from the macro-warp spiral. Despite her fascination with astrophysics, she had put this aside for some time, unable at first to look at it without thinking of Daynah's death, but now examining the data store had become a way of working through that (though the Romulan officer told herself that what she was doing was honoring the scientist's memory by studying the data collected at the cost of her life).
Once the Orion arrived at the expected coordinates, she dropped out of warp.
Captain Barrett accepted a PADD from an attending yeoman and started to scan it while saying, "Please hail the Flying Spirit and let them know that we're ready to begin crew transfers at their convenience."
Neteri quickly opened the frequency, =/\=USS Flying Spirit this is USS Orion. Ready to accept personal transfers=/\= she said quickly.
There was no answer. Nokomis began taping the console next to her chair impatient for the answer as usual. "I'm not picking them up . . . no, wait. They're not at the rendezvous coordinates but I am getting a strange reading from a planet nearby. Could be them. Lieutenant Yaserina, can you clear up this signal a little bit?"
"I can try sir. The signal is not as strong as I would like," she said trying to boost the signal. It took her a few minutes and three different algorithms later the signal got readable to some degree. "Captain, I got something now. Putting it on audio...." Neteri said.
The overhead speakers crackled as they came to life with a broken message that was clearly Federation in origin. "This is the USS Flying Spirit. We've enco... and lost power. ... being pulled.... going down!"
The message clicked off. Captain Barrett looked at Diza. "Looks like this just became a rescue operation, Number One."
Nokomis nodded to Logan. "See if you can trace the message or get a better fix on that signal I picked up," she said, putting her hand on Neteri's shoulder briefly. "If not then standard search patterns in that general area until you find them. This is too big of a needle to hide in a hay stack and we need to locate them as soon as possible."
"Sir, there is an ion trail," Vriha reported, adjusting her instruments. "It is partially dispersed, but I believe we can trace it."
"Excellent," Mis said, sitting down again. "Follow that ship," she said as if she'd always wanted to use that phrase.
"Aye, aye sir!", Neteri said echoing the sentiment. Using her knowledge of flight skills and fighter training, she took the Orion and followed the dissipating ion trail. As she guided the ship, she also scanned for the missing ship.
K'Larn was scanning for a warp trace while all this going on. Incase Neteri did not find it maybe her scan might.
Finchley had been in the armoury when the message from Lieutenant Isuri telling him to report to the bridge for duty had come. Once he'd replied, he told the ensign with him to finish up, log the findings and he'd read the report later. Hurrying, he made his way up to the bridge and took his place at the security console.
"Mister Finchley, please send out a long-range hail. We might be able to make contact with them and find out what's going on." Captain Barrett then looked at the Romulan at the operations chair. "Centurion, boost the scan range of the main deflector and tie that data with helm to keep us on track." With any luck, they'd find the missing ship and rescue the officers and crew before it was too late.
"Aye Sir, long-range hail being sent now" Finchley replied "tying in the helm as well for a possible reply so they can get a fix on the ship's position."
"Helm relay tie in online now. Will monitor for answer Lt. Kerr", Neteri said quickly.
"Boosting power to main deflector for additional signal strength", K'Larn said.
The Orion made her way slowly through space to follow the ion trail that would hopefully lead them to the U.S.S. Flying Spirit within time to rescue them from whatever danger they faced.
