Mission 2: Pyramids & Spirals
Location: First Officer’s Office
Timeline: MD 02-0900 Hours
Lieutenant Ren Kannu straighten his uniform as he approached the First Officer’s Office to receive his duty roster. Although he was technically head of the flight control department he was also new to the ship which had already had a working roster. He would tweak the Orion’s Flight Control Department once he was settled in his new position.
He finally arrived at the Commander’s office, pressed the chime and waited for permission to enter.
Nokomis had just finished what she was doing, turned off the PADD and pushed it to the edge of her desk when the chime sounded. "Come in," she called as she glanced up. The familiar face of the new flight control office entered. They'd met the night before at the party that had been spontaneously thrown for her. "Lieutenant, have a seat."
Ren gave the Commander a small smile and a nod before taking the offered seat. “Did you enjoy the festivities last night?” He asked as an ice breaker.
"Yes, it was a surprising get together to celebrate a holiday on my home world, even though I was actually raised on Earth. I definitely enjoyed it." She sat down in her chair and looked at him. "I was just reading over your file."
Kannu nodded, “I enjoyed it too. I like to people watch.” He said with a smile. “I hope everything in my file is satisfactory, Commander?”
"Yes. It looks like you've had a promising career." There was always more that Nokomis wanted to ask people, mostly because she was just a curious person. But she resisted, often people expected a purely business relationship and they didn't like their superior asking anything remotely personal. "Galaxy class ships are still impressive, though they're getting a bit on the older side."
“They maybe on the older side of the fleet but still beautiful to look at. There was a reason Starfleet named a Galaxy Class Enterprise.” Ren said with a smile. “I’m looking forward to getting behind the wheel of this old lady. I reckon she still has a few tricks up get sleeve still.”
"Please don't fly us into anything. It's going to be so embarrassing if I have to call Starfleet and tell them we had a fender bender with another ship. Not to mention there will be all kinds of questions and paperwork that I really don't want to fill out." She smiled. "Seriously though, it looks like everything is in order. Welcome aboard. Is there anything you need?"
“I don’t make a habit of flying into things, well, unless I’m ordered to.” He said with a chuckle. “I imagine the paperwork for such things is extensive.” He added. “It’s a pleasure to be here, ma’am. I’m looking forward to getting to know my new ship mates. I’d like a copy of the flight control duty roster, I’m sure it’s fine but I might want to make a few tweaks here and there in the coming days and weeks.”
Nokomis looked down at her PADD and tapped a few times. "I've just sent a copy to your quarters." She said glancing back up at him. "It's your area of expertise so feel free to tweak it as much as you like." She had nothing else for him and rose to her feet.
“Thank you, ma’am. I appreciate the trust. I’ve been on some ships where it took me months to even suggest changes as the current ones ’worked’.” Ren replied. “They might work but their maybe a better more efficient way of doing it.”
"I'm always open to new ways to make a ship more efficient." Nokomis got to her feet. "Let me know if you have any other ideas or need anything else." That was the end of the conversation as far as she was concerned. She wanted to keep things professional because of Tiber. What a nightmare that had been and in the end she'd ended up getting hurt over it.
“Thank you, Commander.” Ren replied smiling. “I’ll let you get back to whatever you were doing.”
"You're very welcome." Mis said softly as she watched him leave her office. She sighed, sat back down in her chair and waited for the next person to come through the door.
